Heeler's Blog Featured as the Guest Blog on the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation's Website
Christina Enright has been an active member of the ‘Winchester Hospital Heelers’, a top fundraising team that participates in the annual Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, for the past four years. Although she leads a busy life – she’s a wife and mother who works full-time as a technical writer for a local software company and also runs a small home business – participating with the Heelers in the Weekend is a priority for Christina. “We are just so lucky to live here, and to have access to such top-notch cancer care. Giving back is the least I can do.”

Millions Raised to Help Beat Womens' Cancers
More than $2 million was raised during this year's Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women's Cancers. The fundraising pace on June 5 & 6 was set by 1,000 walkers; some of them women battling cancer themselves. Rain was no match for their bright spirits. While a cure is always the ultimate goal, officials from the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation say the money will be used to help those in need right now. "We have four big priorities," said the Foundation's Guy Legault. "It includes care close to home, reduction of wait times, making sure we have new research therapies and also improving the quality of life."
"As far as I'm concerned this is just cleansing everything and making everything ok," said Sue Keeler, a WDMH patient. "It's my mom's tears falling on me saying you're going to be ok." Keeler lost her mother to breast cancer, beat the disease twice herself, and says she does not want her grandchildren to experience the disease. "They're my world right now and that's why I fight so they don't have to fight this horrible disease; and we're getting so close that I believe with all my heart that we're just going to knock it right out."
WDMHF Welcomes Ottawa Senator Matt Carkner
as Honourary Campaign Co-Chair

It was all hands on deck as the Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) Foundation launched the next phase of its $5 million Close to Home campaign at its annual gala at Winchester Arena. The campaign focuses on the excellent care that is provided just down the road at Winchester District Memorial Hospital. At the gala, Doug Grenkie, Campaign Chair, announced that the campaign total now stands at $2,250,000.00 thanks to the generous support of donors in the local communities, service clubs and corporate donors.
Doug Grenkie was joined by Ottawa Senator Matt Carkner, who will serve as Honourary Chair of the campaign. “Throughout my life, Winchester District Memorial Hospital has been there to provide me and my family with excellent care,” Matt says. “My brother, sister and I were all born at the hospital. When I needed the Emergency Department, it was always there with fast and friendly care. I want to be sure the wonderful staff here have all the tools they need to continue to provide the very best care.”
