Donors are the heart of the Foundation. The hospital’s focus is on providing excellent health care to patients and their loved ones, and the Foundation’s work makes that possible. Each gift is precious to us, and each individual gives in their own way and for their own reason. Here is one story of how a family made a difference.
Marion is one of thousands of valued donors to Winchester District Memorial Hospital who have contributed small amounts to the hospital over the years. Recently Marion decided she wanted to do something significant to honour her husband, Lynden, who passed away two years ago. Here in a family photograph with her two sons, she holds a picture of Lynden, whose community service spanned over 30 years.
After discussing it with her family, Marion initiated a transfer of shares purchased several years ago to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital Foundation. By donating shares she was able to give more because of the elimination of the capital gains tax on gifts of appreciated securities in 2006. This gift resulted in a significant tax credit for her.

Marion is very pleased with her decision. “Having recently spent some time in the hospital, I’m very happy knowing that in a small way I have helped to give back” she stated. “ This was the best way for me to do it."
