Our History:

The Winchester District Memorial Hospital, built in 1948 to meet the needs of a growing community, underwent it’s first campaign in 1958 to add an additional 50 beds. This campaign was led by Dr. Howard Justus, who wrote “Ten years of Hospitalization at Winchester has improved the quality of medical care to this community, which have been so well received by the public that one might say the Hospital has become a way of life to this community…”

This is the community garden in the centre of the hospital, in front of a corner where the original Hospital meets the new addition. Just one of the many beautiful corners of our amazing renovated Hospital!

Current: The Close to Home Campaign

The WDMH Foundation is in the middle of the Close to Home Campaign. This campaign represents the Foundation's commitment to protecting the outstanding health care that the Winchester District Memorial Hospital has provided for many generations. The sincere concern shown through the support offered by many regional donors, companies, service clubs, and other organizations has been overwhelming over the years. With your help, we want to continue to support and improve the Winchester District Memorial Hospital's capacity to teach, offer expanded technological resources, and provide that amazing, friendly care, close to home.

Prior to the existence of the WDMH Foundation, many changes and improvements were made to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital. These changes were funded by campaigns led by physicians, staff and dedicated volunteers.

Past Campaigns:

• Renewing the Vision Campaign, $15 m  2001 – 2006
  • Expansion and renovation of the hospital to result in a 133,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility
  • Expanded programs will include:  Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care, Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Maternity
  • Construction began in October, 2007 and is anticipated for completion by February, 2010
  • Generous donations came flooding in by many individuals, businesses, service clubs and community groups in an overwhelming show of support, raising the necessary $15 million that assured approval of the project
• Dialysis, $750,000 – 1999
  
• Electrical & Mechanical upgrades:  $3 m - 1990
  
• Lab Expansion: $600,000 - 1984
